Elderly

Aromatherapy is ideally suited to help with many of the problems upon we grow older, such as joint pains, respiratory problems, digestive difficulties, poor memory,
lack of energy…etc. Gentle oils are more appropriate for elderly.  

Reminders:

  • Recommended dilution is 1% to 2% for massage. Take a gentle approach for massaging older people because the skin of elderly is more delicate with age, dry, papery-looking and easily damaged. Vigorous strokes during massage should be avoid as elderly may have fragile bones due to osteoporosis, joint pain, arthritis.
  • Eucalyptus radiate, Myrtle, Thyme (Linalol chemotype) would be helpful for the bronchial problems for older people.
  • It is better applying essential oil with greater dilutions to minimize skin irritation.

Camomile, Helichrysum, Mandarin, Lavender and Rose
Dementia - Peppermint, Ginger, Ylang Ylang, Bergamot, Lemon, Lavender, Rosemary (not suitable for high-blood pressure)
